Our Creativity Shines Through!

a water duct by Natan and Eli leading straight to the house faucet!
During Center Time, Dovi made a choshen mishpat just like the Kohen Gadol!

Safrus

We learned how a sefer torah, tefillin and mezuzah is written. we practiced writing our own hebrew names in the same font and with a feather and ink!

Soccer Fever

Soccer fever had a good influence in our games- we had a group huddle before games and formed lines after the game to wish each team a job well done! ( this was all initiated by the boys!)

World Cup after effects...

Catching up on all the going ons

It's been a busy few weeks in our class since the Holidays- we've learned lots and have done quite a bit of change in our classroom decor as well. Here's a bit of a catch up from the Holidays

Taste, Touch

We explored our sense of taste by tasting different things without looking and naming which of the four basic tastes it fell under- bitter, salty, sour, or sweet.

We made sensory balls to play with in our class. We filled balloons with different things to create different textured balls. ( Flour, sugar, beans etc)

Parent Teacher Interviews

An email has been sent out about Parent Teacher Interviews that will be taking place Wednesday May 26, from 1:15 to 4:30. If you have not booked a fifteen minute slot yet, please let me know as soon as possible. Have a Happy Shavous!

Bikurim Parade!

We each brought beautiful baskets of fruit for Yad Aharon. We proudly marched with our fruit and gave them to the representatives who were there to collect it. We are sure we've helped so many people have a happier and tastier shavous!

Standing Proudly in our "Midbar" formation!

Decorating our Flags

Parshas Bamidbar

While learning about Parshas Bamidar, we discussed how the yidden rested. There were three camps, the inner camp had the mishkan, the second camp Moshe Aaron and the Cohanim and Leviim, and the outer camp the rest of Bnei Yisrael. There were three Shevatim on each side. For each side there was a flag representing the three shvatim. Morah divided us up into the different camps and we each designed our flag with the colors that represented our three shevatim.
Of course this lead us to the discussion of the World Cup and the flags that each country has. This of course led us into the discussion of what a COUNTRY is - so we explored the concepts of PLANETS, CONTINENTS, COUNTRIES, CITIES, STREETS AND ADDRESSES. These are all topics that we hope to master and understand over the next few weeks! The children who know their addresses and their suburbs were so excited to share them with us!

Shavous Projects

We worked very dilligently on our shavous vase canvases to be sure that they would come out perfect! We have been working with the skills and patience of true artists, being careful to color neatly and practice staying in the lines.

Cricket!

Thank you Liron for bringing in your cricket set- we were so excited to play!

Har Sinai

Trying to make Matan Torah a more hands on experience, the boys ( on their own initiative!) built a Har Sinai in the sand box while sitting around it as the yidden who were on the outskirts of the mountain receiving the Torah!

Math Skills

Along with our Math station (for more info and pics check the earlier posts on the blog!), we've begun advancing our math skills in different areas. To help us learn how to draw the numbers correctly we've been using different materials to make it more tactile for us. We've made the shapes of the numbers out of our bodies, we counted out the correct number from different things around the classroom and traced the numbers and drew them on our own in our books.
For sums, Morah put us into pairs. Then, we were given a number. We had to work out two numbers that when added equaled the number Morah said. We then collected the correct amount of items to make a visual math equation!
We made different math equations with beans and beads. We were told a number and had to quickly make a math equation using our beans. We learned a lot, and got to have some fun too!

Mother's Day!

We've been hard at work on a special Mother's Day gift! All the yeladim kept expressing how much they love their mommies and want their gift to be beautiful!

Spacial and Visual Skills

We've been concentrating on our spacial skills by working on our peg boards copying over the patterns that we are given. We have all mastered the straight lined patterns and are now working on more difficult patterns, such as diagonal lines and different shapes.

Ahavas Yisroel cards

In honor of Lag Ba'omer, we went around the tables and each took a turn decorating a picture for our friends. We are all such good friends and add such special things to our class- and this is one way that we want to show it!

Candles and Ahavas Yisrael

Candles and Ahavas Yisrael

While learning about Lag Ba'omer and Rabbi Akiva's students, we discussed the concept of Ahavas Yisrael. We had on display all different types of candles. We discussed what it means for things to be the same and for things to be different. We then looked at the candles and discussed what was different about each of them.
Morah then lit all of the candles. Now, they all had a flame in common!
We looked around the classroom and saw many different looking boys. Some were tall, some liked soccer, some had blue eyes. But we all have a Neshama, a part of Hashem inside of us. This is the link that connects us all. So just like the candles were all different but shared the same flame, so too all of us might be different but share the same "flame" - our Neshamas!
This helps us to realize that even though we might not have too much in common with someone else, we can still be friends and love each other, because we all share a part of Hashem!

Farbrengen with Moshe

Friday Farbrengens with Moshe Wilshansky

We are so lucky as the pre aleph to get a special visitor every friday! Moshe Wilshansky has started to come to our class every friday to make a little farbrengen with us. He tells us a story and teaches us a song that is connected to that story!
We all listened so nicely and participated.
We can't wait for friday to come again!

Welcome to Second Term!

Welcome back to school! I hope and trust that you've all had a healthy and relaxing Pesach.
This term we will be focusing on a few areas. We are working on our skills in numbers, sounds, visual, and more. This week, we've already been concentrating on our number skills. We painted, counted, drew and decorated numbers one through five.
Other than the yomim tovim- Lag Ba'omer and Shavous, we will be doing a section on "All about Me" including - Our Bodies, Our Families, Our Senses, and Our Feelings. Each topic will be covered in depth and on a Pre- Aleph level.
And of course, the much discussed topic everywhere... Soccer 2010!
As a school, we will be working on a project, where each class will focus on a different country that will be attending the World Cup. We will discuss their culture, flag, currency, and of course the Jewish aspect - their shuls, communities etc.
Looking Forward to another successful and stimulating term with this incredible class!
Please feel free to contact me if you have anything you would like to discuss.

all about counting!

Here we are counting out the beans until we get to the number 49- it was great practicing all our numbers!
We love the math center!- we get to make a math equation ( sentence) and put the amount of clothpins behind each number. We then count how many pins are up to find out the answer!
