Taking Pesach deeper...

In honour of Pesach this year, we are trying to take the pesach learning to a deeper level. A big theme of Pesach is questions... the children ask the 4 questions, many things are done just so the children will ask questions! While observing the type of questions the children were asking, it was noticed that they were factual questions as opposed to thoughtful questions. The Morah decided to have a conversation with the children about the concept of questions and it was incredible to see how through pushing the children a little... their thoughts were able to go so deep!
Here is the conversation that happened...

Morah: What are the kids going to do at the seder?
Yaakov: Mah Nishtana
Morah: What is that?
Eitan: 4 Questions.
Morah: What do we do when we need to know something we don’t know?
Eli: You ask your mommy.
Benjy: You ask your daddy.
Levik: You ask a Rabbi.
Mendy: You ask your bobba or Zaida if your father doesn’t know.
Levi: You tell someone.
Natan Moshe: You ask your granny.
Morah: What if no-one at home knows the answer?
Eli: Then we phone.
Eitan: You can daven to Hashem and then He’ll make you think of it and know it.
Liron: You can look in a siddur or a chumash.
Morah: When do we look in a siddur or chumash? For what type of questions do we look there?
Liron: It says ‘don’t have any other G-d’s.’
Levi: It says in Torah ‘you not allowed to kill’.
Liron: ‘You not allowed to take someone else’s wife.’
Morah: Where else can we look for answers? Can we look on a computer?
Eli: My computer only tells me when movies are. You can look on the computer if there’s a hurricane or storm far away. It shows you very far away!
Morah: Do you know what an encyclopedia is?
Mendy: It tells you what your number is and when Purim is and Pesach is but only the Hebrew ones. (calendar)!
Morah explained what an encyclopedia is… if you need to look up something with W… e.g. water you go to W and you find info on it!
Morah: Why do we ask questions?
Dovi: Because we don’t know them.
Natan Moshe: If we don’t know what to do.
Levik: If we don’t know how Hashem made us.
Eli: Hashem made us out of sand!
Maor: I don’t know how to tie my shoe!
Morah: See, Maor didn’t know something and he asked!!
Moshe: If you don’t know how to read
Eitan: If you don’t know how to count to 10.
Mendy: If you don’t know how to go down pole and there’s no slide and monkey bars, you can ask a question.
Morah: When we want to write a question what do we put at the end of the sentence?
Eli: A question mark.
Morah: I want everyone to think of a question they would like to ask the Morah about anything… what will it be?
Liron: Please can you put on an IPOD?
Natan Moshe: How did Moshe die?
Natan: Why did king Pharoh make the Jews work so hard?
David: How did the Yiddin die? The Yiddin who were working so hard?
Levi: How did Moshe’s brother die?
Benjy: what if you don’t know how to row a boat?
Shoham: When Moshe came down Har Sinai his face was shining!
Maor: I know how Moshe’s brother died. He slipped.
Levi: That’s my question.
Maor: Why did King Pharoh just give the jews water and sand to make bricks?
Dovie: Because he wanted to make it harder!
Levi: when the Maakos came, Pharoh made them work even harder.
Gilad: Why did my grandpa have to fall by the pool and break his leg?
Yaakov: How do you ride a parachute?
Levik: How do you fly a plane?
Morah: Who can we ask that?
Maor: A pilot.
Eli: How did the Yidden do something bad to the red cow? How did it turn red?
Morah explained about the red cow- the Pharah Adumah.
Chanan: Why did the Yidden have blood on the door?
Levi: To show the Jews shouldn’t die by Maakos Bechoros in the jews house?
Mendy: Why did they put matzah on their back when they went out Mitzrayim?
Levik: They wanted Challah but the sun made it turn to Matzah.
Moshe: Why did the Yidden dance around the idol?
Mendy: Why did Hashem make them make the Idol?

Eitan: Yetzer Horah and Yetzer Tov! You always try listen to the Yetzer Tov but sometimes you listen to the yetzer Horah!
Morah: Where’s Hashem?
Eli: In the sky.

Morah: What questions do you want to ask Hashem??
Dovie: Why doesn’t he bring Moshiach yet?
Mendy: Why couldn’t the Greeks just not break the Beis Hamikdash? Why did they have to?
Yaakov: Why does he make some ‘bad’ies win?
Liron: Just sometimes! Once the yiddin were gonna fight ‘Iye’ and they did aveyra so ‘Iye’ won!
Levik: How come Hashem doesn’t make us holy like him and special like him?
Levi: Why doesn’t Hashem bring Moshiach NOW?
Natan: Why does Hashem make all these special things for us?
Mendy: Because we his people!!!
Eli: Why do we have day and night?
David: Why doesn’t Hashem make the Beis Hamikdash so the bad people can’t break it?
Chanan: Why do we eat Matzah?
Eitan: When they had a fight against ‘Iye’- Yehoshua put his staff up for the whole fight to show Hashem was helping us.
Liron: No he wasn’t helping us!
Eitan: A little bit he was because he always helps us because we Jews.
Benjy: Why doesn’t Hashem split the sea again?
Levi: Why does hashem make it sometimes cold?
Natan Moshe: Why does Hashem make it sometimes hot and sometimes cold?
Maor: Why did Hashem build the Beis Hamikdash and then let the Romans break it and the Greeks put pigs in it?
Levik: Why does Hashem make us his soldiers?
Yaakov: Why does Hashem make some people die?
Dovie: When you old you die.
Eitan: When you have wrinkles you die.
Benjy: Why does Hashem give us a Yetzer Hora?
Maor: Why does the Yetzer Horah make us do bad things?

Overheard in Our Class

Levik Shishler was thinking about which sides of the paper we write on. He asked " If we write english on the left side and hebrew from the right do we write Zulu from the middle? "
